MeisterSinger No.03 Bronze – Awesome And Classy

It is the perfect example of how a brand can take one of their successful models and turn it into something new and special without changing much in the design.

In case you are not familiar with the new MeisterSinger bronze watches let me give you a short run-down. The new MeisterSinger Bronze Line consist of 3 models. These are namely the No.03, the Perigraph, and the Metris. None of them are new models, all three have been in the MeisterSinger collection for years now. However, this is the first time we see these three iconic models from the German brand in a bronze case. Bronze is not a new thing in the watch industry, so much so that one might even say that the time of bronze watches are over. I see it a bit differently. To me, bronze as a material is here to stay.

I love the look of the new MeisterSinger No.03 Bronze Line.

Out of all 3 of them, the No.03 has the most industrial look.

MeisterSinger No.03

While bronze is not as neutral in terms of design, like steel, gold or even titanium, it is an excellent material that, when used correctly, can elevate a model line. We have seen this many time with other brands. Just think of Tudor, for one. I firmly believe this was the aim (or one of the objectives) for

To start with, bronze used to be the material scientific equipment and devices were made of. That paired up with the dial of the No.03 gives as such a feel. Yet it does not look old or outdated.

Case

The bronze case and the blueish dark dial is a great combination. While the size of the No.03 is pretty large at 43mm, it does not feel out of proportion. Though the bezel is thin, the short but thick lugs and the large crown soften the look of the large dial. It is also worth mentioning that the watch only looks slim from the front. If we turn it over, we can see that it has its thickness. Not too much, just enough to make it look rugged enough. Something bronze watches should all look like. To complement the roughness, the finishing on the case is satin throughout the watch. The sapphire display back is steel and bolted to the case with six screws. As we can see on the back, the water resistance of the No.03 is 5 bar or 50 meters.

Dial

The instrument-like look of the case continues with the dial. The layout is simple; the hours have Arabic numeral markings, the 5-minute markings are short, and the 15-minute indexes are long. To add to the scientific equipment, look, the tip of the hand is red. You can find the same red marking in the indexes at 3-6-9 and 12. Under the 12 o’clock you can find the brand name and above the 6 o’clock position is the model name; No.03 with the marking “Automatic” highlighting the movement. In-Between the text and the 6 is the aperture for the date. To carry on with the red details, the white date wheel has red printing for the numbers. Just like with most MeisterSinger watches, the dial is simple, large and easily readable. It has enough details to be a bit different from the steel No.03, yet it’s not overcomplicated with colours.

Movement

One might say that a watch with such a unique way of displaying time probably has a special movement. Well, it is, and it isn’t the case. Let me explain. Indeed, the movement of the No.03, like every other Meistersinger is heavily modified to meet the requirements of the single-hand-display function. Although the base caliber is an ETA 2824-2 or a Sellita SW200-1 (if you are wondering how and why an ETA movement can be substituted with a Sellita, read

Pricing

The original No.03 has won many design awards since its release, so it was the perfect base for the brand to create something new. Out of all three bronze Meistersinger models, the No.03 has the most straightforward look, somewhat vintage yet contemporary. It is available on a 20mm, dark brown, hand stitched, calfskin leather strap with a bronze MeisterSinger pin buckle. The price of the No.03 is €1,990, and it is available on the market since April. If we look at the average prices of bronze watches from other, perhaps larger, watch companies the sub-€2,000 price is pretty good. Especially if we take into consideration the fact that for this money you get a very different watch. Different, in the right way.
